Helpful Car Maintenance Tips

Tire service at auto workshop by mechanic. If you put a sizable financial investment into your vehicle (and who doesn’t), you’re going to want to protect that investment. The best way to do that, by far, is by keeping up with regularly scheduled maintenance.

Our friends at CarBibles.com have put together some great tips to keep in mind when it comes to servicing and maintaining your car, truck, van, or SUV. Keep these tips in mind the next time your vehicle is about to be due for its next maintenance appointment.

Always Get the Multipoint Inspection

Most dealership service departments will always give you the option of a multipoint inspection. Let them perform it and pay attention to the results. It can give you a heads-up of maintenance needs down the road and save you money in the long run.

Know Your Warning Lights

Your vehicle’s interior display panel offers a dazzling array of warning lights. Break out your owner’s manual and get to know them all. It will give you a clear idea of what may or may not be wrong with your vehicle when it isn’t running properly.

Rotate Your Tires Regularly

Tires wear unevenly through normal vehicle operation and it’s important to get them rotated on a regular basis. This will even out the wear on them and also allow you to drive on the tires safely for a longer period of time.

Monitor Your Fuel Efficiency

A decrease in your fuel efficiency can be an indicator that something isn’t functioning properly under the hood. It pays dividends to keep an eye on your fuel efficiency and monitor it for changes.

Don’t Forget to Change the Engine Air Filter

Speaking of negatively affecting fuel efficiency, a dirty engine air filter definitely could impact your engine’s performance. While it’s tempting to say “skip it” when the service tech advises you that it’s time for a replacement, go ahead and bite the bullet. Your car, and your pocketbook, will thank you later.
